Queensmead Primary Academy

Art & Design

It is our aim that through our art curriculum, children develop their creative imagination, enabling them to communicate what they see, feel and think through a range of tools and media. During their time at Queensmead Primary Academy, children are given regular opportunities to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Skills and techniques are taught progressively to ensure that all children are able to learn, practice and develop as they move through the school.

During art lessons, children explore their ideas, record their experiences and produce creative work, often linked to a class topic.  They become increasingly proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.  Pupils are given the skills to evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art.  They explore the work of great artists, craft makers and designers, and they understand the historical and cultural development of different art forms.
